As mentioned in a previous post, I just got back from Vietnam. For about two days, I was in Hue to visit some cousins whom I'd never met before (or if I had, don't remember them). Hadn't gone back in over twenty years. Anyway, my cousins took me to sight see and I happened upon this place (below) which made me scratched my head. It looked so darn familiar but I was sure I'd never been there. Turns out, in my previous otome novel (Poetess Xuan: Huy), I'd went online to search for palaces and came upon a picture that I liked. And just like that, I was standing in the middle of the courtyard which I'd spent hours replicating. A magical moment to be sure if it weren't so darn hot!
This place is Minh Mang's tomb, second emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty. For a tomb, it is ginormous! This isn't even the entrance or the middle. It's somewhere along the way. You'd get your exercise for the day just making a round!
Hue is an interesting place. While I walked through the popular sites, one thought kept resonating: I'm in a Dynasty Warriors game during the Nan Man Campaigns. I don't know why. Maybe if you make it there one day, you'll see what I mean. In the old days, the imperials resided in Hue so you'll find plenty of palaces and temples which display the wealth of a nation. Not the cleanest place to be, just a warning, and you might meet quite a few hustlers but just be on your guard like everywhere else and the visit should be enjoyable. I can already hear all the Hue people griping, ha-ha.
Just wanted to share this cool pic with ya. If you've been to Hue, let me know your thoughts.
