Love Nikki: Dress Up Queen

Hey all,

I don't know if you've been seeing this recommendation on your Facebook page, I kept seeing it on mine so I downloaded it.  The game is called Love Nikki: Dress Up Queen.  It's very, very... odd but fun.  The story line is one of those "Okay, if you say so.  I'll take a vial and jump down the rabbit hole."  There was a fashion show in some old wars where a pink-haired girl and Princess Elle fought for domination after the king died.  The pink-haired girl won one of the (3?) treasures but left so the princess took over with her reign of terror type deal... of course I skipped most of the intro so hopefully I didn't misstated anything.

Basically, you play as a pink-haired girl name Nikki (is she the original pink-haired girl or her incarnation?) and make your way through the story with your sidekicks Momo and Bobo.  Each stage has Nikki doing a fashion-off with competitors based on theme and grading criteria.  People will challenge Nikki for different reasons and half of it is silly and doesn't make much sense but just play along.  I'm not a fashionable person but the game is still pretty darn fun.  You might have to grind to pass some levels.  Overall, if you can get past the silly story line and maybe a lot of farming for materials and supplies, it's a fun game.  It may be the most interesting game I've played on an app so far.  The art is also amazing, very moe.  So far I'm giving the game a 4/5.  Check it out when you have a chance.

Non Winning Scenario Entry: Rental Boyfriend Kotaro Horibuchi

Hey all,

Hope you've had a merry Christmas.  As mentioned in a previous post, I would post my non-winning scenario entry below for lolz.  I tried to keep it clean because as you may know, the Rental Boyfriend otome can get a little hot and heavy depending on the routes, lol.  Tell me what you think, did I capture Kotaro's personality?

**On a side note, in the original draft, I did have Kotaro buy Shina-san a Lamborghini... a toy model of it, but then the whole thing went over word limit so I had to modify for simplicity.  Anyhow, here it is:

(Oh my goodness, Why does Shina-san have such expensive taste?
He'll laugh if I buy the cheapest thing on this list... a scale ruler.)
The official Lipstick Kiss Christmas party is in three days.  We've been so busy with
customers wanting dates for office parties and family gatherings that there hasn't
been a chance to breathe.  I purchased decorations weeks ago and thought my part
was nearly finished until this red piece of paper left inside the booking journal suddenly
pokes out like a sore thumb.  We've opted for Secret Santa and Shina-san's list
is virtually impossible.
MC: "What am I going to do?"
Kotaro: "Hey, Niece-girl."
MC: "Ah!"  [A hand flies over my mouth] "Don't sneak up on me!"
Kotaro: "Sor-ry!  Geez.  Jumpy much?  What's that?"
MC: "N-nothing.  Hey, give that back!"
Kotaro: "You're Takeomi's Secret Santa?" [He holds up the paper] "Ha!  That's funny.
Gonna get him a ruler?"
MC: "Obviously not.  What about you?  Who did you get?"
Kotaro: "You."
MC: "Me?"
Kotaro: "Yeah, you."
(I didn't think he'd admit it so easily.)
Kotaro: "Hmm, I have an idea.  You're terrible at budgeting, right?"
MC: "Hey!"  (Ah, who am I kidding?) "... Yeah..."
Kotaro: "Knew it.  Why don't I, as a gift to you, purchase something for Takeomi?"
MC: "You want me to... re-gift your gift?"
Kotaro:  "Just saying.  Might not be a bad idea.  I looked over your list.
Nothing you really need, right?"
MC; "True."
Kotaro:  "Unless you really want those panda slippers, then it's settled.
Financially sound decision it is!"
MC: "How are you going to afford anything from Shina-san's list?
He wants a Lamborghini!"
Kotaro: "I know exactly what he wants.  Don't worry."
MC: "Oh.  Thank you, Kotaro."
Kotaro: "Sure.  Now can we please put up decorations?  It's soooo drab in here!"
(He's pouting.  Kotaro is such a kid but he can also be very mature.
I really like him—I mean like that about him!  Ugh, what am I thinking?)
The day of the party is finally here.  Uncle Mokki and Kaoru are drunk under
the Christmas tree.  Aito and Kotaro's appetizers and drinks are a big hit.  Everyone
is having fun, except me.  I'd agreed but I'm not sure how this re-gifting will work
without someone noticing I'm a total cheapskate.
For the moment, I'm hiding by the doorway.
Kotaro: "Hey Niece-girl."
MC: "Ah!"
Turning around, the wide-eyed stare puts me to silence.
He was wearing an apron when I came in.  This dolled-up version of
Kotaro is... really handsome.
Kotaro:  "Are you mad?  Say something."
MC:  "O-oh, um, you look really nice."
Kotaro: "Well duh, it's a party.  And... thanks.  [He looks off, blushing]
Here, give this to Takeomi.  I've put your name on the tag.  Stop being anxious."
MC: "Honestly, I feel guilty.  You've put in the work and... budget and I'm taking your credit."
Kotaro: "Credit—Don't sweat it!  This is my gift to you, remember?  If you don't accept,
I'll feel really bad."
MC: "Well, when you put it that way..."
Haruka: "Are you two kissing under the mistletoe?"
Holy crap, I nearly dropped the package!
MC: " N-no!"
Kotaro: "Niece-girl was showing me her expensive present for Takeomi."
MC: "Kotaro!"
Haruka: "Oh, yeah!  Gift time!"
At once, the others swarm under the tree, all except for Shina-san.
Takeomi: "Is that for me?"
MC: "Oh, y-yeah.  Kotaro helped picked it out..."
Kotaro: "No clue what she's talking about."
Shrugging, Kotaro moves away.  Takeomi's eyes suddenly light up.
Takeomi: "A scale ruler!"
MC: "WHAT?!"
Takeomi: "Perfect!  Just what I wanted."
Smiling, Takeomi pats my shoulder and moves toward the others.  I can't breathe.
Kotaro's snickering.
MC: "You bought the ruler?!"
Kotaro: "Takeomi listed extravagant items because he just wanted a ruler.
You are dense. "
MC: "You could have told me!"
Kotaro: "Yeah, but then I couldn't derail from your list.
I knew you'd freak out and hide by the door where this mistletoe was
mysteriously hung.  This is my real gift.  Merry Christmas."
A soft sensation touches my lips and then once part, our lips naturally join.
This is the perfect gift, much better than panda slippers.
It's a memory of a first kiss I'll treasure forever.

Swagbucks Dollar Shave Club Deal

Hey readers,

Swagbucks has a good deal for Dollar Shave Club as their Deal of the Day.  Spend $5 for an initial box and get $20 back.  Stay subscribed 3 months ($9 each month) and get an additional $15.  The last time I did this deal, I only got $3 back so this is awesome!   Of course I can't do it a second time  T__T

I don't remember having to contact anyone to cancel it either, it was manageable under account settings.

Happy Shopping!

Loot Gaming and Anime 50% Off!

Hey y'all,

Just got an email from Lootcrate.  They're running a promo for 50% off Gaming or Anime monthly boxes.  Only applicable to 1,3, or 6 month subscription.  Use promocode "Holiday2017."

For other crates, I believe the "bestof2017" code will get you 30% off.

If you would like to sign up and give me me free points toward loot, then please use this link (won't hate you if you don't): http://looted.by/hpOPd

For those who don't know what Lootcrate is, it's a geeky subscription service.  They have different themes you can choose from, Lootcrate being the most basic and cheapest.  [I like the Sanrio crate (kawaii!)  :3 ]  Anyhow, they send you anything from toys to shirts and figurines, etc.  Makes ya giddy when a box comes in the mail.

You can cancel anytime before the next billing date without having to contact anyone, which is wonderful.  They're not bad on pricing when promos are ran.  I wouldn't buy them at full price tbh.  Also, I think you get a free box this month for signing up or something?  If you love geek stuff, and have the spare cash, it's worth a try.

Okko Rental Boyfriend Scenario Contest Result

Hey all,

Looks like the Rental Boyfriend Otome Christmas scenario gacha is out.  If you'll remember, there was a competition for submitting scenarios for all the guys.  I saw on another blog that the writer had a winning entry for Aito and also had two other scenarios rejected.  I haven't heard back from Okko aside from the original email with confirmation that they received it.  I guess that means I didn't win... would have appreciated notice.  Bummer.  Oh well, I'm not foreign to failure.  Hoping the winning entry for Kotaro will be sweet.  Maybe I'll post mine here in a few days just for lolz.

Anyway, if you haven't checked out the Rental Boyfriend otome app, give it a chance.  It's one of Okko's better ones, I think.  And, also check out the Christmas scenario gacha.  There are a lot of talented writers out there and it would be a good chance to see the guys in a new light, outside of the original creator's hands.

If I don't see you again before 12/25... Merry Christmas!

Polaris Update

Hey everyone,

Thanks for visiting.  I've been working on and off the fourth book to Polaris.  Yue will definitely be one of the routes but I'm still debating who to set him up against, Ying or Qing Hai.  Her OTP, Bai Hu, keeps poking his head into the story but he can't be Yue's rival since he's already had his chance!  Qing Hai seems plausible because he's a warm character in contrast to Yue's distant persona but I really wanted that scene at the palace where she first chooses a "guardian" to be the split between Hai, Hu and Yue.  So, I guess Ying would have to be it though I'm having a hard time portraying his character.  From the third book, Ying was shown to be serious, temperamental, acts like a curmudgeon-y old man, but also silly in his own way.  He doesn't get along with the MC and thinks she's kind of stupid.  On top of that, Ying is pretty manipulative.  Both men also like the "pure maiden" type.  They're both kind of goofy too.

That leaves the MC choosing between a curmudgeon-y manipulator and a distant persona who brushes her off and hardly ever speaks his mind.  Not much of a choice for the MC either way... on the surface anyhow.  This is going to take a lot of pages to develop both relationships... I keep looking at the page count and already it's at 250.  I really don't want another 800 page Empress of Ning type book and really, it needs to be 500 or less but who am I kidding?  That's not going to happen.  I hate large books because it deters readers from giving it a chance but I also don't want to limit my writing and confine the characters.  Guess I'll figure it out as I go along.

This book will be a little different from the others in that the Bei Ling-Nan Rong conflict won't begin with Su Jian's invasion, though he's involved of course.  The Huang Nu bloodline, first mentioned in Dui's True Ending will also play a key role in Yue's route.  I'm going to tone down Bao Lai's demon slayer ability and force her to use her head more, like in the first two books.

And finally, I get to write about Yue's quirkiness which I've had in my head for a long time... and probably should have written down sooner since I've forgotten most of it.  His quirkiness is liken to being OCD.  Now, I was, or rather am still though not quite as bad, OCD.  Some people associate OCD as things needing to be in order; ie, neat freak.  OCD though, at least in my case, is the compulsion to do things certain ways or a certain number of times to avoid something undesirable from happening.  It doesn't always make sense when said aloud, but it makes sense mentally.  I'm not going to make Yue super OCD as I was back in my younger years but I'll give him some of those attributes along with a shyness/embarrassment stemmed from acknowledgement that the illogical quirks exist.  You'll see from one chapter where they enter a restaurant and he'll sit on the edge of a chair because the seat is dirty but Yue won't change seats out because he's afraid to cause a scene.  At other times, he'll come home and repeat a series of actions.  Or, he'll blame himself for something bad happening because he derailed from a normal routine even though one couldn't have caused the other. He's also obsessed with cleanliness too but that reason you'll have to read for yourself.

As of now, I don't have an estimate for when the book will be done.  This is going to take a while.  I'm hoping before July of next year.  Check back for updates.

Talk to ya soon!

Okko's Rental Boyfriend Scenario Contest Update

Hey y'all,

Just entered my scenario for Okko's Rental Boyfriend otome writing contest.  I went with Kotaro since he's a cutie and I can keep it clean unlike say, writing about Takeomi or Haruka.  The hardest part was keeping it under 700 words.  Had to change my story around to make it fit.  Ended with exactly 700 words.  Took me about 1-2 hrs but I was also playing on my tablet a little.

If you still haven't submitted your entry, there's still time.  December 6th is the last day.

Happy writing!

Reminder: Okko Sweet Romance's 'Rental Boyfriend' Otome Writing Contest

This is a repeat/reminder to those interested in writing a mini scenario for an otome game.  Okko Sweet Romance has a special contest for their Rental Boyfriend otome.  If you win, they'll publish your idea as one of their gacha short stories and also give you free points (platinum) for the specialty items that usually cost real money.  Your story will be published to thousands who play the game.

All you have to do is write a special scenario, Christmas theme, for the MC and one of the guys from the otome.  700 words max and submit it by December 6th.  Submit scripts (preferably Mword) to support_en@okko.jp with appropriate headers.

I wasn't going to but now I'm thinking about it.  Would be fun.  Takeomi and Taisuke are my favs but Kotaro seems a cute route to write.

I'm encouraging all otome lovers who like the Rental BFs series to enter.  Go for it!  You never know until you try!

Happy writing!

I'm still full from yesterday's meal.  How about you?  Did you go with the usual affairs or tried something new?  Please share below.

I did both.  Here are a few of my non-traditional items

1. cranberry cheesecake souffle.. is it a cheesecake or a souffle?  Both... I mixed them.  It was actually pretty good :)
2. Thai jelly dessert (made with jackfruit, longan, agar jelly, lychee and milk)
3. Chinese turkey aka roast duck.

Black Friday/Brown Thursday Shopping

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!  Hope your holiday's going well.

I just got back from Black Friday/Brown Thursday Shopping.  The line outside of JCPenney was insanely long but once the doors opened, things went smoothly.  Only got $10 off coupon.  Oh well, free money, no complaints.  Macy's didn't have as many people as I thought at opening time but the parking lot was full when I left an hour later.  In case you haven't gone, the cashier told me those "free" items after rebates are limited to 3 per household (address).  Didn't know that.  Guess I better borrow a friend's address. ;)

Below are a couple of presents I got for myself.  The bcbgmaxazria perfume was $12 (free after rebate) and the Gianni Bernini cubic zicronia set  is $19.99 (original tag says $125).

Did you find anything good at Black Friday/Brown Thursday this year?  Please post below.

PS: if you're a Loot Crate fan, 30% off all crates with coupon code CYBERSAVINGS and 55% off Loot Vault with code BlackFriday.

Tofu Bride Manga: Part 1 of 3

Hey all,

Here's my first of several manga post to come.  This was the second manga short that I created years ago which I never finished because I found out the manga competition I was interested in entering wasn't hosting another season.  Also, I was in college and had to focus on those finals.

So, taking into account that this was for a short manga competition and stories had page limits, I know the story line is cheesy and pictures are not well drawn.  Not well drawn because I'm not a good artist not because I didn't try.  Also this was a draft and the grammar and typos are duly noted.

Let me know what you think... be kind. (T.T)

Manga Short to Come...

Happy Monday folks!

Hope you're doing well!  Can you believe Thanksgiving is three days away?!  Time sure flies.

As with many major holidays, I try to clean my house to help with the feng shui aspect (and because it's usually filthy--I'm a hoarder).  I was cleaning last week and found two manga shorts that I made years ago.  One was entered into a manga competition and lost, the other, I never had a chance to submit since the competition wasn't held anymore.  They were terribly drawn and the story lines were sort of dumb because of the page limits.  Back then, I was drawing and inking things by hand and sometimes scanned them into a word document so I could add fonts.  Didn't have any of the fancy digital arts tool I have now.

I would never formally publish these of course, but it'd be a waste to throw them away without ever giving them a chance in the limelight.  So, I'll be uploading these soon, maybe a few pages at a time.  Look out for them.  Read and laugh if you must but try to be kind.  One is called "Tofu Bride" and the other... can't remember what I named it; let's go with "Picture Perfect."

Hoping I can get at least a few pages up later today.  See ya later!

Otome Contest: Christmas Theme

Hey all,

I just saw the posting by Okko Sweet Romance for a special contest for their Rental Boyfriend otome.  If you win, they'll publish your idea as one of their gacha short stories and also give you free points (platinum) for the specialty items that usually cost real money.  All you have to do is write a special scenario, Christmas theme, for the MC and one of the guys from the otome.  700 words max and submit it by December 6th.  Submit submissions (preferably Mword) to support_en@okko.jp with appropriate headers.

For more info, download the app and play through one of the guy's route to get a sense of their personalities.  You can submit routes for as many as you like.  I don't think I'll be doing this due to lack of time, but I'll definitely keep it in mind.  It would be really fun to win though, wouldn't it?  Your idea published to thousands!  Anyhow, download the app if you want more info.  It only takes about a minute.

Happy writing!

Make a Wish MC!

Hey all,

Have you played Shall We Date Apps' Ninja Destiny 2+ Kila's route?  I know I always complain about this otome but then I see new routes and I keep on playing it. I like the Kila character aside from the cliche, "let's go on a date, MC!" to the dumb battle between lovers... "I love you so I have to fight you to the death!" nonsense.  Kila's cute.  His bad boy, sharp eyes and spiky hair were some of my original character idea for Bai Hu but then I went the realistic art route and that would have been a little weird.

Anyway, this post is about the MC, Ayame.  She can have any wish that she wants and she chose to bring back Kila's sense of pain.  This really reminded me of Fushigi Yuugi's MC wanting to wish to get into a prestigious high school even though she just ended up marrying Tamahome and becoming a stay at home mom.  I'm not against women who chose to stay at home and take care of kids; it's an honorable profession and not an easy one.  Unlike work, you can't ignore your kids after 5PM (or can you?).  But really, Miaka, someone else (man or woman) who wanted a spot at that prestigious school in order to find a job after graduating could have used the opportunity.  Plus, you have your OTP, don't be greedy.  Go to a regular high school like the rest of us.

Point is, these MC seem really selfish since there are a plethora of bad things that plague the world from war to diseases and senseless crimes.  The reader is supposed to feel agreeable with the MC's wish choice and nod their heads when the author emphasizes that everything else is supposed to be earned, not granted because that would be too easy.  I know Miaka didn't actually use a wish to get into the school but I don't find what she did noble either; both her and Yui irritate me.  Same with Ayame.  I grasp what the authors are getting at but to be honest, each time I see one of these MC, they really tick me off.  I mean, if anyone is ever lucky enough to be favored by the gods and get one or multiple wishes, please fix the world to make it heaven on earth.  And if you can, ask for more wishes.  Or... get a wish lawyer and write down all your requests into a contract and hand it over for granting.  I don't know of any magical guidelines that bar using the word "and" when wishing.

This has been another blog post featuring me, griping.  I don't know why I felt compelled to write this post but I did.  Maybe someone who reads this will get a chance to become MC and make a wish come true.  For the love of God, please fix this crazy world!  AND also send Hotohori to me!

2 Sp00ky: A Little Early for Halloween

Hey all,

Halloween is next week.  I'm excited!  Are you?  How do you usually celebrate?  Me, I'm not into costume parties or trick-or-treating. I like popping a big bowl of popcorn, a bag of Mary Jane peanut candy (because it reminds me of childhood), a bunch of other not-so-good-for-you snacks and sit in front of the TV in my PJs and watch ghost shows.  Ghost Adventures is always a good one even though the guys can be too dramatic.  Dead Files is my favorite but they haven't had any new episodes recently (off topic).

Anyway, I like listening to spooky stories so if you have any, feel free to share (with the other five people who visits my website, lol).  I'll tell you some of mine below.

First story, this was kind of an unusual experience, not so much spooky.  The university I attended had many sightings of a ghost in white who committed suicide a long time ago when one of the school buildings used to be someone's home.  The school is said to have several spirits roaming but she's the main.  Now, back in my late teens/early twenties before I injured my spine, I started becoming more sensitive to the spirit world.  You can choose to believe or disbelieve that, won't hurt my feelings. I believe it, of course.  After my injuries, seems like my ability to pick up "signals" disappeared, like an antenna got broken.  Anyhow, I didn't see the lady in white but I felt someone else.  So, I was walking late afternoon to one of my classes across the Quad, and then, I suddenly sensed someone walking behind me.  I figured I was in their way so I moved aside.  No one advanced.  I thought I must be imagining things so I moved back to the middle of the path and again felt someone behind me.  I walked faster (I walk pretty fast in general) and oddly enough, when my pace increased, it felt like the person behind me was doing the same.  In fact, they were speeding up even faster than me until it felt like someone collided into me from behind while two arms wrapped around my shoulders.  It felt like a tall person, male aura, but when I turn back with fist raised, didn't see anyone.  The closest students were a ways off and unless one of them is secretly the Flash, there was no way any could have been responsible.  I literally jolted forward from the collision but also felt like someone wrapped their arms around me and pulled me back.  After that, I didn't feel anyone behind me again.  Ran to class, face pale as if I'd "seen" a ghost.

Second one, happened recently during my trip to Viet Nam.  More of an annoyance than spooky.  It was hot and muggy and I was stinky from the flight after landing.  Aunt told me to go change my clothes (was staying at her house) before we all went out to eat.  Put my phone in a green purse she gave me since she said hooligans in Ho Chi Minh City will jack anyone and everyone for their smartphone when it's in plain sight.  Put the phone down inside my black suitcase since I figured I won't even bother taking it with me.  Literally five minutes later, decided to take it anyway so I can snap photos, the purse is gone.  Turned every single piece of luggage inside out.  Nothing.  Family said to go eat and deal with it later.  Said fine.  Went back after dinner and spent the entire night churning through the luggage, calling the number from my Mom's phone, and checking that black suitcase again and again.  No idea.  Went to sleep, had a weird dream about someone handing me back my phone.  Woke up, went back to the black luggage and opened it, first dang thing at the top is the green purse and my phone.  Figures... and I had looked in there a hundred time and pulled everything out about ten times.

Last one, happened decades ago when I was a kid.  The house I lived in used to be the storage shed about the size of a closet of the house next door; that bigger house was haunted I later found out.  I used to see these creatures with red and green eyes.  The creatures have a semi-human face, like they're wearing masks and their bodies were... something else.  Just to clarify, when I say "see them," I mean I saw them in my mind's eyes and not physically, but the images were so vivid, they freaked me out, especially the ones with the green eyes.  I used to hate being alone in that house and I was deathly afraid of that particular color of green.

One time I was outside while my mom was talking to the neighbor, it was late, and I didn't want to go to sleep.  Next thing I know, I'm sitting on a hammock inside the house with my sister (hammocks inside are common in Vietnam) which practically took up most of the house.  My sister jumped off the swinging hammock and dared me to do the same.  I was a chicken, so she got annoyed and went outside. I figured I'll practice while she's away so I started swinging faster and faster, finally building up the courage to jump off.  However, I miscalculated when I jumped off and hit the wall, except I fell through the wall instead... into another world it seems, inside a dark fortress and behind a bush; scraped my right hand pretty badly.  On the other side of the bush these creatures were marching in 2x2, some red and some green eyes... just like the creatures I kept seeing inside my head.  I'm not the type to scream when scared, just go pale, and that's what happened. Couldn't breathe because I thought they might sense me.  The wall behind had closed up and I couldn't go back.  This world felt really old too... if that makes any sense.  As if I'd stepped into some forgotten ancient world.

Not long after, someone was right next to me.  I couldn't really see his face but it was a human(?) boy who sort of talked to me in some telepathic fashion.  His mouth never moved but I heard him inside my head.  He said "don't worry, I'll take you back."  So he sat with me for a long while until the creatures marched by.  Then, he pulled me from bush to bush until we reach another wall.  It was kind of like the scene from Spirited Away when Haku was sneaking around with Chihiro... which I've always claimed was a ripoff from my experience (though I know that's impossible).  Anyhow, I think he smiled and said "go through.  It'll take you home."  Along with that was a mental implication that he would seal up the portal so those creatures can't follow.  I wasn't much of a talker back then and I figured, okay... whatever, I just wanna go home.  After I walked through, woke up with my right hand burning from a scrape as it had in the dream when I fell through the wall.  Could have been that I fell unconscious while outside with my mom and scraped my hand before having the dream, don't know.  The most amazing thing though is that I never saw those creatures in my mind's eyes again and I didn't feel scared being in the house.  Could have all been nothing, who knows, but it's cool to think that I could have made it to another world and met a gatekeeper of sorts.  Wouldn't it be nice if that boy made it to this world and we could meet again?  Guess I wouldn't recognize him anyway since I couldn't see his face, plus that was more than twenty years ago.  Unless he starts talking to me telepathically, I'd have no idea.  Maybe I'll use this experience for an otome some day.  :)

So, now that I've given some of my personal accounts.  Please share some of your supernatural and/or spooky experiences.

Happy (early) Halloween!

~LP

Bao Lai's OTP?

Hey guys and gals,

Recently, I learned there was an otome (on the PS2?) called Fushigi Yuugi Suzaku Ibun, where the MC is the priestess of Suzaku and gets to vie for all seven Suzaku Seishi's love.  I don't know why I haven't heard about it until now since it's a pretty old game.  I can't even find it on Amazon.  The notion of getting to choose between one of the guys is great, because you know... I'd go for Hotohori ;0) no doubt about it!  The MC is not Miaka though, it's another character and I wonder if this change was made because Tamahome is considered Miaka's OTP so it would be weird to play as her and vie for other guys.  Overall, I was never a big fan of Miaka.  She's irresponsible, stupid and useless but tends to say really good things at the right time, as many lead anime female characters do.  Words without actions to me are... eh, whatever.  Not to diss Yuu Watase's MC or anything but I just didn't/don't like her.

Anyway, from thinking about OTPs, I started thinking about Bao Lai from my Polaris series.  I feel like Bai Hu is her OTP but the same could be said about Han Bei or Dui.  Tell me which you think is her OTP if you've read the series, btw.

Hu is her childhood friend/enemy and the same could be said about Dui.  I feel that she has the most in common with Hu which is why they had such a love/hate relationship in their earlier years at Tian Mao Yi.  Dui is the opposite of Bao Lai and she likes him because of this aspect too.  In Polaris: The Demon General and the General Practitioner, I mentioned in an earlier post that I'd probably choose Dui if I were Bao Lai but now that I'm reading the endings over again and again, I'm not sure.  I think Hu might be Bao Lai's OTP.

Then, there's also Han Bei.  Now, in Polaris: Empress of Ning, it was established that (spoiler alert!) Dong Xing, Bao Lai's half-sister, requested Han Bei to find her missing sister on her deathbed in the hopes that Bao Lai could take her role and love Han Bei in her stead.  This makes me feel that their fates are tied and Han Bei has been waiting for Bao Lai all his life.  Makes me really sad to read his part in all the books where Bao Lai is destined to love another.  Albeit Han Bei is never without lovers, I feel like he'll always be cheated a happy ending except in his own route.  I'm the one who wrote it so it's technically my fault.  Mad at myself!

I'm working on Yue's route now and I'm not sure who to pit him against and it's kind of difficult having written the OTP route and then switching over to another character who is obviously not the MC's OTP.  I want the story to be romantic and exciting of course but hell... how do ya beat true love?  My original idea was to pit Hu, Yue and Hai against one another but that wouldn't have been good.  Dui vs. Hu was best; both men could be Bao Lai's OTP.  So, guess I'll just let the characters take me through their stories in my head and I'll just write it down.

While I'm reading over the routes, here are some of my favorite quotes between the OTP(s) from the volume 3:

"What was it you said?  I'd never find a man if I kept cross-dressing and I'd probably end up married to some random loser?  That makes you the random loser." - Bao Lai to Bai Hu

“I’ve been rejected for a lot of things in my life but never because of that!  How dare you accuse me of being too perfect?  You’re a horrible, horrible wife!”  - Bai Hu to Bao Lai

"I was trying to be an adult by being there for you and not throw tantrums.  How would I have known you just wanted me to break all your fingers?!" - Bao Lai to Bai Hu

"If you say so.  In that justification, I don't need a wife then, I have you.  You've been nagging in my ears since the day we've met." - Dui to Bao Lai

"What did I say about using people as test subjects?!" - Bao Lai to Dui

"Are you willfully ignorant?  Who has been my one priority these past many months?  Whom have I risked life and limb to protect?  Whose happiness did I persevere to keep intact despite the fact that it was killing me inside?  Practice was the first time I put my hands on you.  Attraction was the first moment I kissed you.  And love was the instant I never wanted to see another man touch you." - Dui to Bao Lai

"An active decision without observation is a mistake.  Fine, I'll give in to your stubbornness for now.  Come the end of this conflict and your views may yet change.  Let me make one thing clear.  You didn't realize your love for Bai Hu until I suggested the idea and despite your pining for another, I have become your dependence.  I have loved you in every way he couldn't.  He's taken the shallow route of claiming your body.  I have taken the deeper path to your soul.  Hidden behind your superficial view of my weak shell is an acknowledgement of that truth.  Your childish obsession must end.  He's turned you away from one misunderstanding.  I would never misunderstand."  - Dui to Bao Lai

"Whatever that means.  Speaking of my brother, maybe I should have taken his advice.  Tormenting me is a sort of hobby for you. I should have run away when I had the chance." - Dui to Bao Lai

"Got an answer for everything, don't you?  Fine.  I didn't intend to take such drastic measures but since you've forced my hand, in twenty years if we're not married to other people, let's go crazy and tie the knot." - Dui to Bao Lai

Onto the Next Project

Hey y'all,

Hope your weekend's been going well.  I've been sitting here contemplating my next project.  I thought to continue the Polaris series with routes for General Yue and possibly Ying but also kind of want to do something new.  Went back and looked in my old writing files, found a few (incomplete) books I wrote during my Jane Austin/Oscar Wilde daydream phase; ie, English romance with a pinch of sassy cynicism.  They're not otomes though so I'm wondering if I can turn them into otomes or keep them as young adult fiction.  What do you think?  Is an English romance otome something you'd read?  I'm not sure how it'll work but guess I'll figure something out. :)

Thanks for visiting!

Polaris: Dui's True Ending is Out!

Hey all!

My newest spinoff novel is now available for purchase.  Read for free with Kindle Unlimited or Amazon Prime and a Kindle device.  Polaris: Dui's True Ending.  Please check it out!

I recommend reading Polaris: The Demon General and the General Practitioner first if you have the chance but really, this spinoff stands alone and can be read independently.  Volume 3 provides a lot of good background info though that would make the nuances from volume 3.5 (spinoff) stand out more.

Title: Polaris: Dui's True Ending (Volume 3.5 of the Polaris Series)
ISBN: 978-0996633833
Price: $11.99 for physical copy. $2.99 for ebook.  Free with Kindle Unlimited.  Free with Amazon Prime and a Kindle device.
Link: www.amazon.com/author/lennepenry

Synopsis, Covers and Final CGI:

A special spinoff to the Polaris: the Demon General and the General Practitioner otome novel, this volume is recommended for those who've read Dui's ending in the previous book.  However, it is not required since this book stands alone.

Six months after leaving Bai Hu to pursue an apprenticeship under Dui, spring has come again.  The time for lovers is in the air.  Bao Lai's come to return the doctor's unrequited affection only to find that it may be too late.  He refuses to be loved by default.

At the same time, a message from the E Mo city of Ming Na forebodes another conflict on the horizon.  The old wars threaten to return and Bao Lai's special bloodline advantage is once more called upon.  To her surprise, another personal discord awaits in the Northern city and Bao Lai must come to terms with accepting her continued affections for both the man she loves and the man she loved, who seeks to rekindle what they've lost.  The answer appears evident and yet only through seeing with unclouded eyes will peace be restored.

Find out the conclusion to Dui's story in this special spinoff and arrive at the exclusive CGI!

Waiting on CreateSpace

Hey all,

I've sent my final version of the latest book to CreateSpace for publishing and it's supposed to take 24 hrs to review the file but it's been nearly 48... so, I'm hoping the book will be out some time this week.  I wonder if they're holding it because of the strange subtitle: Volume 3.5 of the Series.  Who knows?  This book couldn't really be considered a fourth volume and it's not a separate series but CreateSpace won't let me do a half series so I had to make a new one and called it 3.5.  Anyway, I'll keep posted on how things go.

On another note, been sick with this 24-hr stomach flu thing.  I've heard about it.  Never had it until yesterday.  Didn't think it really would be "24-hr" and yet it is.  Weird.  Anyhow, going to crawl back into bed since this med is making me feel all weird.  Ta-ta for now.

Random Post: September Update

Hey all,

I'm on my last stride of editing the new Polaris spinoff.  I'm hoping to go to production this weekend.  I keep thinking maybe the ending could be different but I'm not sure what else it could be.  Tried all sorts of endings and this one seems the best to me. So... I'm going with it.  Also, I realize Bao Lai kind of sounds like a SJW for part of the story, lol @ me, but I think she needed to be otherwise the story is too linear.  Besides, it gives her some character development as she snaps out of it, I guess.

On another note, if you're reading this today 9/30/17, JCPenney has some good stuff, 50% off already clearance items.  Also, download their app and get an extra 20% off your order.  I bought an original $30+ pair of shoes for ~$7.  Not bad, eh?

That's all I have for now.  Talk to ya soon.

Random Post: Food from Japan

Hey guys and gals,

I was watching PBS this weekend and they had all episodes about the "Land of the Rising Sun" aka Japan.  Mostly, they mentioned ramen which made me remember my trip to Tokyo some years back.  Thought I'd share a few pics.

I ate at this one noodle shop daily while I was there because it was near the hotel in Asakusa and very affordable.  Mostly had soba noodles but the shop had tempura and rice too.  I did have ramen at a shop near Harajuku but didn't take any pictures.  Below are some pics. The last one is actually curry at a department store near Akihabara.  Japanese people love their curry.  This restaurant was owned by an Indian guy and he's also the chef.  It was pretty good.  If I go back, I think I'll have to try and find more ramen places.  One week was way too short, by the time I got used to the train system, it was time to leave.  (-.-)

Have you been to Japan?  What are your favorite spots?

Polaris: Accessorizing Dui

Decided to accessorize Dui a little for the final CG.  I used a bracelet that I made a while back as the model.  The first real picture is my wrinkly hand.  The one adjacent is the digital art copy and then the bottom picture is when it's applied to Dui's hand.

A little background on the bracelet.  This seller I usually purchase from had a packet of 4 "monk" beads which depict the four beast guardians of the universe according to Chinese mythology.  They are Xuan Wu, Bai Hu, Qing Long and Zhu Que.  For those who watch a lot of anime, you might recognize these names in the Japanese version: Genbu, Byakko, Seiryu and Suzaku.  When I took the picture, Genbu was the top bead; hence, the turtle shell in the picture.

What do you think?  Does it fit Dui's personality or is this too much for him?

Need Your Opinion: Polaris CG Draft Dui and Bao Lai Kiss Scene

Hey all,

Working on the Polaris kiss scene for Dui's true ending spin-off.  I can't get Dui's face/hair to look right.  With limited skills, it's the best I can do.  Between these two, which do you prefer for his face?  The left one looks a little small for the hair but the right one makes Dui looks disproportionate to Bao Lai... I think she looks little compared to him for some reason but the chin structure is better in the right picture.  What do you think?  Appreciate any feedback.

Polaris Update: Partial CG -- Little Dui and Bao Lai

Hey all,

Still working on the Polaris spin-off/special edition for Dui's true ending.  Stopped doing edits because I kept thinking about the CGs so I jumped ship.  I have the cover mostly ready.  Here's a partial CG of the final one.  This is Dui and Bao Lai as children during their time at Tian Mao Yi.  Bao Lai is cross-dressed of course (as Little Hung) and harassing Dui as usual.  Her skin tone is a little light but I'm not sure why since I used the same palette from previous pictures.  She still needs some touch ups.  I haven't done a kiss scene CG yet so I'm going for that in their "grown up" version.

Dui's hair is too complicated and I don't know if I can replicate it a second time so I've been recycling it.  Thought about giving him a new haircut but I liked this one so I might just edit it instead.

Anyway, more to come!

Random Post: August Update

Hey all,

Was that solar eclipse yesterday awesome or what?  It felt like watching sunset and then sunrise again in the course of ten minutes.  Really great.  Ended up squinting one eye through those counterfeit solar eclipse glasses I had and then placed a pair of sunglasses over them.  Also, I covered most of the sunglasses with my hands to only allow a small peep hole.  Strange how the rain cleared up just before the eclipse happened and then resumed right after... glad I could see it though.  Hope you did too.

I managed to move my latest novel along and am almost done with the first draft.  By almost, I mean like 25-50 pages away.  I'm not sure how the schema will change upon the initial edit.  Honestly, I kind of like it but I also don't like it all that much (for now).  I'm not sure if this was the story I envisioned and I will probably change the ending I envisioned too.  Initially, I had thought to make the end scene erotica-like because hey, it might be interesting to give a new style a try.  But then... I don't know... not so sure now.  Maybe making it sweet is enough.  What do you think?

On and all, I'm slating production to be early October or late September, depending on how busy things get at work.  That's also if I don't just drop things and go prospecting in Arkansas.  That's right, prospecting for diamonds!... at the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas.  Been eyeing that place for a while but it's such a long drive!  In case you haven't ever checked this place out, look it up.  For $10(?) you can dig for diamonds all day.  Most can be found just by walking around and picking them off the ground.  Apparently, the diamond digging area used to be a volcano a long time ago.  Most of the diamonds aren't worth much (pennies if even that).  Once in a while, someone might find a gem amongst gem and that's when the big bucks roll in!  I just think it's neat.  Never been, but it's on my to-do list.

Well, that's all I have for now.  TTYL.

Solar Eclipse Tomorrow!

Hey ya'll,

The total solar eclipse is tomorrow.  If you intend on watching, remember to be careful so you don't hurt your eyes.  I bought some solar glasses from a coworker who got a pack off Amazon, Soluna brand, and they turned out to be fakes.  According to the manufacturer's website, the real Soluna glasses have the website url listed below the logo in the middle of the glasses (on the backside).  The fakes may have this too but most actually fail to copy this simple aspect.  The ones she sold me didn't have them.  What that means is that they may not meet ISO requirements and won't be effective in blocking out harmful rays.

Another person from work made their own viewing pane from cardstock and aluminum foil via online instructions.  Another option would be to use a kiddie pool or some wide container filled with water and angle it at the sun then watch the eclipse in the reflection without looking up.  I'm not sure what I'll do yet. Maybe wear my sunglasses and wait until everything's dark before looking up and then look away immediately when light begins to peak... or use a mirror and angle it away... dunno yet.

Anyhow, whatever you plan to do, be safe.  There will likely be a lot of traffic outside tomorrow depending on whether you're in one of the prime zones for viewing or not, so be careful.  Watch the road, not the sky.  Heard some people are freaking out about the concept of a total blackout too like it's the apocalypse... reminds me of primitive cavemen.  Oh well, to each his own.

Let me know what your plans are for the eclipse!

Random Post: Inbox Dollars... Ripoff Artist

Hey all,

It's been a while since I did a post about how to make money from home.  One of the websites I liked was Inbox Dollars.  They did pay, emphasis on did.  Recently, I cashed out my 30 some dollars and a day later, was banned from the website.  Now, I'd request a payout earlier but decided to wait until I hit $40 to avoid the processing fee.  Then, decided I didn't want to wait and went ahead with the cash-out a few weeks later.  So, I didn't actually do much different during the few weeks except for requesting my check.  Read online that they've been doing this to a lot of members to avoid payout.  Wouldn't have wasted my time if I knew.

In short, if you are planning to sign up with Inbox or are already a member, be careful that you don't end up wasting your time.

Random Post: Kotaro Horibuchi Route's is Out!

Hey y'all,

Kota's route is out on Rental Boyfriend!  So far, I like it.  They're using the "other woman" approach to create conflict in this route, which is okay.  By other woman, I mean the MC has to contend with another woman for the bishie.  Kota's innocent, silly and just plain adorable.  Typically, I don't like the youngster persona but his plain adorableness is making things work.  Plus he's over 18 so it's cool right? ;0)

The MC's heart hurts every time she sees another pretty young thing talking to him in a friendly manner--typical-- but not terribly annoying.  I'm not sure I'm fond of this MC either.  She's got a mouth on her at times, playing Miss Sassy, but can also be a total ditz.  Supposedly, she's in her twenties, but really, her personality is that of a fifteen year old.

Going to keep going and see what happens.  Let me know what you think of Kota.
